Amman, July 2025: The Jordan Customs Department (JCD) has taken a major step in modernizing its trade and border operations with the deployment of ASYHUB Maritime and ASYHUB Express, two advanced digital platforms that streamline the exchange of customs data for containerized and express shipments.
Developed in close cooperation with the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and supported by funding from GIZ, the systems are designed to fast-track the clearance of both containerized cargo and express consignments. Their deployment is expected to significantly improve the speed, accuracy, and transparency of customs operations, particularly along high-volume trade corridors and eCommerce lanes.
Jordan’s geography further magnifies the importance of these reforms. As a country with a single maritime gateway, Jordan serves not only as an import hub, but also as a critical transit corridor for goods destined for Iraq, Syria, and the Palestinian territories. Through its Red Sea access, the Port of Aqaba connects Jordan to broader African and Asian trade routes, reinforcing the port’s strategic relevance well beyond its borders.
Built atop Jordan’s operational ASYCUDAWorld platform, ASYHUB Maritime and Express represent the first national deployment of these modules in the Arab region using the ASYCUDA New Generation of technologies,a suite of digital innovations that enable pre-arrival processing, paperless procedure, secure data integration, and real-time coordination among public and private sector actors.
Speaking from Amman, Major General Ahmed Al- Akaleek, Director-General of the Jordan Customs Department, called the initiative “a cornerstone of Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision.” He added, “This effort strengthens regional integration, enhances the performance of our supply chains, and plays a vital role in catalysing trade-led growth.”
Officials involved in the project emphasized that Jordan’s successful implementation sets a regional benchmark. The country’s high level of institutional commitment, coupled with strong technical and operational readiness, has allowed it to lead the adoption of next-generation customs technologies in the Arab world.
The launch of ASYHUB comes at a time when the demands on customs authorities are evolving rapidly. Rising eCommerce volumes, tighter security requirements, and increasing pressure to reduce clearance times have underscored the need for integrated, real-time solutions. ASYHUB responds directly to this challenge by offering interoperable digital corridors between customs and carriers, accelerating pre-arrival and pre-departure data exchange.
For Jordan, these advances reflect more than just system upgrades. They mark a broader transformation in the governance of cross-border trade, one that aligns with global standards, reinforces institutional trust, and lays the groundwork for a more connected, digitally enabled regional trade environment.
With the successful deployment of ASYHUB Maritime and Express, Jordan not only modernizes its customs landscape but also positioning itself as a regional leader in shaping the digital future of trade in the Arab region.
