Geneva/Kishinev, 9 September 2025: The Republic of Moldova has successfully migrated to Phase 6 of the New Computerized Transit System (NCTS), marking a significant step in modernizing its customs operations and preparing for deeper integration with the European customs area.
The migration, completed overnight on 7 September 2025 without disrupting trade flows, positions Moldova among the first countries to adopt the latest version of the system and the first in its region. Economic operators continued business as usual during the transition, reflecting the robustness of the process and the preparedness of the Customs Service of Moldova.
NCTS Phase 6 introduces faster and more secure data exchange, shorter procedures, lower administrative costs, and greater transparency. For traders, this means reduced clearance times and simplified guarantees, while for customs authorities it enhances fraud prevention and strengthens risk-based monitoring.
“The completion of the migration to NCTS version 6 represents not only technological progress, but also a decisive step towards Moldova’s integration into the European customs area,” said Alexandru Iacub, Director of the Customs Service. “For the business environment, this means more security, reduced costs and simplified procedures. For us, as a customs authority, it is proof that we can respond efficiently and responsibly to European standards.”
The system was developed by UN Trade and Development’s ASYCUDA Programme, with financial support from the European Union through the project “Development and Implementation of the New Computerized Transit System in the Republic of Moldova.”
Accession to the Convention on the Common Transit Procedure is the next milestone. Once achieved, Moldovan companies will benefit from the same facilities as EU and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) operators, enabling them to compete on equal terms and participate more fully in international supply chains.
This successful upgrade highlights Moldova’s commitment to aligning with international standards and demonstrates how ASYCUDA’s technical expertise, combined with strong national leadership and donor support, can deliver tangible progress towards more efficient, secure, and sustainable trade.
