Geneva, October: At the 16th session of the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD16), the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) will take centre stage in a dedicated side event on “New Technology to Foster Efficient, Secure and Sustainable Trade.”
Scheduled for 20 October 2025 at Palais des Nations, the session will bring together ministers, customs authorities, development partners and international organizations to discuss how emerging digital technologies are reshaping trade facilitation and driving inclusive growth.
The event will open with remarks by the UNCTAD Deputy Secretary-General, highlighting the importance of innovation and digital cooperation in achieving equitable, inclusive and sustainable development.
The Keynote Address will be delivered by H.E. Mr. Moustoïfa Hassani Mohamed, Minister of Economy, Industry and Investments in charge of Economic Integration, Government of the Comoros, who will underscore how digital customs modernization supports regional integration and resilience in least developed countries.
A high-level panel will follow, featuring Mr. Pha Eng Veng, Deputy Director General of Customs and Excise of Cambodia; Ms. Davaasuren Gerelmaa, Ambassador of Mongolia to the UN and WTO; Ms. Ms. Paula Baena, Global Policy Lead on Customs and Universal Postal Union (UPU) Director of Postal Operations, Mr. Abdel Ilah Bousseta. The discussion will explore how digital technologies can enhance efficiency, transparency and sustainability in global trade operations, while fostering stronger partnerships between public institutions and development actors.
Building on these exchanges, ASYCUDA will take this opportunity to officially launch the ASYCUDA New Generation, its latest technology platform designed to translate these shared ambitions into concrete solutions. The new system integrates artificial intelligence, machine learning and secure data exchange frameworks to enable smarter risk management, faster clearance, and seamless interoperability across borders.
By showcasing national and regional experiences, the session will highlight how ASYCUDA continues to make cross-border trade more efficient, secure and sustainable, advancing the digital transformation agenda and the objectives of UNCTAD16: Shaping the Future for Equitable, Inclusive and Sustainable Development.
