Tajikistan Customs Service, supported by UNCTAD’s ASYCUDA Programme, have started piloting the ASYCUDAWorld customs management software prototype. The pilot started in July 2023 and is now operational in both the Dushanbe and Sughd provinces. Towards the end of the year the pilot will be broadened to cover all regions of the landlocked country.
The ASYCUDAWorld digital platform offers electronic services and user-friendly interfaces for remote communication between customs and the trading community, enabling easier submission of customs declarations and the faster processing of electronic customs documents. During the piloting phase, over 100 customs officers and brokers have been trained on using the system.
The pilot also covers the main transit corridors and work is underway to prepare Tajikistan’s bespoke version of ASYCUDAWorld for cross-border data exchanges with neighbouring countries and other important trading partners.
UNCTAD and its ASYCUDA Programme are assisting the Tajikistan government in the implementation of ASYCUDAWorld as part of the government’s national strategy for economic transformation, digitalization and customs sector reform. ASYCUDAWorld is being implemented within the framework of the Central Asia Regional Links (CARs-4) project, funded by the World Bank. The ASYCUDAWorld software will support Tajikistan in enhancing customs operational capacity and increasing government revenues to scale up finance for the Sustainable Development Goals. The project also aims to help the country to apply modern customs legislation at all levels and to improve regional trade by accelerating the release of consignments across Central Asia.
