Over the past week, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda have successfully upgraded to the latest version of ASYCUDAWorld (6 March) and, today, activated a new online payments facility that will simplify the payment of customs duties and accelerate the release of consignments.
While the project will modernize the current ASYCUDAWorld customs management system, it will also increase operational efficiencies and make it easier to trade internationally by the introduction of e-payment services for the collection of revenue, alongside other enhancements to the customs clearance process.
The new ASYCUDA e-payment facility will support the government’s transition towards paperless transactions – cutting down on associated costs and making it more convenient for traders to pay taxes online and on time, 24/7 using credit and debit cards. Online payments also limit in-person transactions, ensure traders can fulfil most customs formalities from their offices, increase revenues through improved cash flow, and accelerate customs clearance times.
This project stems from a technical agreement signed by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in November 2021, funded by the European Union 11th EDF.
Jaime Mendoza, ASYCUDA Regional Coordinator for the Americas, said “The launch of the upgraded ASYCUDAWorld and introduction of the e-payment facility will allow all individual and commercial traders to expedite transactions and pay customs obligations at their convenience, thus helping them ease their business with the Customs and Excise Division. It will definitely speed up the release of goods and improve the government’s revenue cash flow.”
