Bissau, 26 January 2026: Guinea-Bissau has officially launched ASYCUDAWorld, marking a major milestone in the country’s customs modernization and digital transformation. The launch was presided over by the Prime Minister and signals the full transition to a modernized electronic customs management environment nationwide.
ASYCUDAWorld is now operational across all computerized customs offices, including the Port of Bissau, Bissau International Airport, and customs offices in São Domingos, Gabú and Bafatá. The rollout follows the successful migration from ASYCUDA++ under the UNCTAD technical assistance project funded by the African Development Bank.
The move from ASYCUDA++, in use since the early 1990s, to ASYCUDAWorld represents a structural upgrade from predominantly paper-based procedures to a fully digital and integrated customs system. The new platform supports more efficient processing, strengthened transparency, and improved trade facilitation controls.
As part of the implementation, additional functionalities and interfaces with external systems were developed and integrated into ASYCUDAWorld to reflect national business processes and regulatory requirements. These enhancements support more effective customs clearance, monitoring and compliance management.
Capacity development formed a core pillar of the transition. Over the past five months, 365 customs officers, licensed customs agents, shipping agents and other stakeholders received functional and technical training to ensure operational readiness and long-term national ownership of the system.
The launch ceremony took place in the context of International Customs Day and gathered senior government representatives, multilateral partners, and private sector stakeholders involved in trade and logistics.
Next phases of the project include the interconnection of ASYCUDAWorld with customs management systems in neighbouring countries, including Senegal, Guinea and The Gambia, as well as the development of additional modules covering exemptions management, express consignments, and air cargo manifest data.
