The Maldives are a long-term user of ASYCUDA customs management software, launching the very first version of ASYCUDA back in 1992 and most recently upgrading to the latest version of ASYCUDAWorld in May 2023. In recent years, the country has witnessed solid growth in the values being traded internationally, with imports increasing 37% and exports increasing 40% in the 2021-2022 period.
The implementation of the ASYCUDAWorld system has advanced efficiency in customs clearance procedures for the trading community in Maldives by, for example, reducing the cost and time associated with customs clearance.
However, staying up-to-date with the latest technological advancements in the ASYCUDAWorld system is important in order to best provide for governments, customs administrations and a country’s trading community.
Between 22 January and 2 February, four Maldives Customs Service (MCS) staff received advanced training, delivered by ASYCUDA Programme experts in Kuala Lumpur, on using Application Programming Interfaces (API) with the customised Maldives ASYCUDAWorld system.
The training helped equip the participants with the tools and knowledge needed to develop an API for interfacing with not only ASYCUDAWorld but also other MCS IT systems. It enabled the participants to stay on top of the industry’s evolving technologies and gain an in-depth understanding of how to use such tools to ensure that the MCS can seamlessly integrate and interact with external services, contributing to improving MCS’s overall efficiency and operations.
