The concession module, the latest plug-in developed under the ASYCUDA-based Vanuatu Electronic Single Window System, was launched as part of International Customs Day celebrations held by Vanuatu’s Department of Customs and Inland Revenue on 26 January 2023.
Previously, duty concessions would be processed using hand-delivered paperwork. Now, customs have 24/7 access to control the application of consistently and automatically approved concessions using the electronic single window, reducing paper usage and scope for error.
The module eliminates the need for customs to manually enter concessions into the ASYCUDAWorld customs management system and traders no longer have to wait for customs to upload these concessions into the system – making the concession application process more transparent, efficient, and cost effective for both traders and regulatory agencies.
Launching the concession module, Vanuatu Minister of Finance and Economic Management, Hon. John Damasing Salong, noted that the Department of Customs and Inland Revenue’s role is not limited to collecting customs duties, taxes, fees, protecting the borders and facilitating trade, but also about assisting all importers who are eligible for government assistance through the customs duty exemptions regimes.
He added, “The government is recognizing the valuable contributions made through revenue collection from all importers, exporters, taxpayers, and all responsible citizens of Vanuatu to their positive and continuous contribution towards the government’s fair share of taxes, customs duties and fees paid to the department despite all the challenges that are faced.”
